Thursday Treks – Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail
It was hard to fit in a hike this week! The kids had a 4 day weekend, but the weather was terrible. First it rained for 2 days (Friday and Saturday), then on Sunday the sun started to come out, but it was cold.
On Sunday we took the kids to the New England Air Museum at Bradley International Airport in CT. On the way back we saw a sign for Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail and decided to take a hike there.
Number 1 and Number 2 were less than thrilled with our spontaneity. In fact, Number 1 declared he wasn’t going. Guess what? He went. It was very cold and I had a limited number of jackets and sweatshirts in the car, so we just went for a short walk. We have plans to go back.
The trail follows a canal that was built to circumvent rapids in the Connecticut River. The actual trail is the tow path that the mules traveled to tow the boats. It is paved and looks like a fun biking trail. The whole trail is 4.5 miles long.
A couple of pictures from our walk:
