Thursday Treks – Rice Nature Preserve
In honor of our old house, I decided to write about the Rice Nature Preserve. (Also because we didn’t hike this weekend because of the move!)
Our old house was on a dead-end street. At the end of the street was the entrance to the Rice Nature Preserve, in Wilbraham, MA. The preserve is town-owned conservation land and includes a 100-year old peach orchard (the Rice family maintains rights to the orchard).
The preserve has 7 different trails. We hiked the Rachael Phelps Trail a handful of times with the kids. It is about a mile long and ends in an orchard that has views down into the Connecticut River Valley.
We have plans to hike the full-length to the top of Sunrise Peak, but haven’t made it that far yet.
Interestingly, our new property abuts the Sunrise Peak trail at the other end, so we have a new way of going there!
