Thursday Treks – Goat Rock Trail
We have a new family goal: to exercise together! Pretty much the only thing we can do together as a family with the wide age range is take walks. So spouse and I are trying to take the kids on a hike every week. Since I don’t usually post on this blog on Thursdays, I decided to start a journal of sorts about our wanderings. It will also act as a great motivating factor for me to make sure we do our weekly hike!
This past weekend we hiked on Goat Rock Trail, starting at the recreation fields in Hampden, MA. The whole trail is 1.25 miles long, but I estimate we only went 1/3 of the way to the Hampden Overlook. The trail was pretty steep and although Number 5 is a trooper and walked the whole way, there is only so much his little legs can take!
There was a lot of grumbling in the beginning from Number 1 about our new exercise plan (it doesn’t fit in with his pre-teen lifestyle) and he refused to be in any pictures, but he was in a good mood by the end.
The view from the top was beautiful.
And we were super excited to find one of my favorite wild plants – The Lady Slipper.
