Superman with Fairy Wings
I was working the other day (aka putting off writing something for a client by “doing research” for my blog) when I came across a post by Julie at Next Life, No Kids. She wrote her post in response to a link a friend of hers shared on Facebook. The link was 21 Pictures That Will Restore Your Faith In Humanity. The post contains pictures of people performing acts of kindness. Julie reposted the post with the comment, “Kind and beautiful can win if you let it. Please let it.” But Julie wonders if that statement is really true.
At the end of the post she proposes a Beauty Wins Challenge and asks her readers to take a picture of something beautiful, write about it and send it to her.
Being the glass-half-full type of person that I am, I thought this was right up my alley.
Therefore, I present to you: Superman with Fairy Wings
To me these pictures are beautiful because they epitomize everything that is good about childhood.
Total lack of self-consciousness.
No gender bias/sexism/racism.
A simple life.
Number 5 came up with this outfit the other day and soared and jumped all around the house. He even wore it out to pick up his brothers from zoo camp. He had a perfectly logical explanation for why Superman needed fairy wings: the wings were required for flying. It didn’t matter that Superman normally used a cape, not even after his brothers told him he was supposed to use one. The wings were required for the outfit. And the outfit was required because there were bad guys to fight that day.
He didn’t care what he looked like or how his actions were received by others. He went about his way, examining rocks, picking up sticks, fighting the bad guys. He didn’t notice the people smirking and smiling at him.
It also didn’t matter that his brothers told him that the fairy wings were for girls. His toys are not biased by gender. He does not notice color or sex. If the toys are fun to play with, he plays with them. If people are nice to him, he accepts them.
His life is simple. His basic needs are met, therefore the rest is easy. The bad guys are easily identified and vanquished. He can take time to examine everything. Troubles pass quickly and are soothed by a simple hug and kiss. Love is given easily and abundantly. Each day is met with enthusiasm and wonder.
There is a lot I can learn from Superman with Fairy Wings.
