Q for Queen Bee
Once again I am blogging my way from A to Z as part of the 2015 April A to Z Challenge! Come blog through the alphabet with me!
I’ve noticed some disturbing trends in Number 4’s behavior lately. She is only in second grade, but she has started carrying a purse. It’s filled with girly pencils and little plastic animals. And when I bring her to an after school activity, the girls (including Number 4) all buzz and cluster around this one particular girl. Then they start comparing what they have in their purses to what she has in hers.
That girl is definitely the queen bee. It’s not the girl’s fault. She’s a sweet girl who is extremely charismatic. She has a natural confidence that is going to serve her well. And she knows the words to all the Taylor Swift songs – automatically propelling her to star status.
But I watch Number 4 and I am sad. I want her to recognize that she is a special person that doesn’t need to copy someone else and work for someone else’s approval. I am worried about her having the confidence to navigate the next 10 years or so.
I want her to realize that there is room for many queens in our people hive.
