Why am I Getting Fat? A Lesson From my Dogs
I turned 40 this year and along with my aging years has come the inevitable slowing metabolism.
But my mind is in a state of denial. The other day I was thinking to myself, why am I getting so fat? I haven’t really changed anything – I am not eating more than usual, I am still getting the same amount of exercise (albeit not near as much exercise as I need). Why should I start getting thick around the middle?
As my dogs have shown me, the answer lies in my own explanation – I haven’t changed anything.
My brain tells me every day that I can still eat like a puppy, yet nutritionally, my body only requires the nutritional equivalent of my aging beagle’s food.
I sympathize with Beasley every day when he looks at his bowl of food next to Maggie’s and gives me the “it just isn’t fair look”.
No, Mr. Beasley, it isn’t.
