Friday Fun – Summer Fun
Despite the super-oppressive heat we’ve had a busy, fun week.
Spouse set up our tent under the shade of one of the giant maple trees. The kids had fun playing in it by day and I spent one night in the tent with Numbers 1 and 2. Unfortunately sleeping outdoors didn’t provide relief from the heat, but we had fun talking on hand-held radios with people in the house and reading by a lantern.
Our wonderful new house does not have air conditioning, so we were desperate for some heat relief. Spouse bought one of those small pop up above ground pools. Our first attempt to set it up failed – the ground wasn’t as level as we thought it was and it leaned to one side as it filled. Then we moved it to a patio area and had success! It is only 3 feet deep and about 10 feet in diameter, so I was worried the older kids would think it is lame. I shouldn’t have worried – they have had tons of fun in the pool.
Last weekend we celebrated Number 1’s 12th birthday with his friends and cousins. Number 1 knows how to party and has gourmet taste. He wanted an Edible arrangement at his party; one that had chocolate covered fruit in it. We compromised and Spouse made chocolate covered strawberries for him. It was really easy to do by melting white and semi-sweet chocolate morsels in the microwave. To surprise him, we rented a giant blow-up water slide. Between that, water balloons, and the pool, all the kids had a cool, wet, fun time!
