Friday Fun – Sonny’s Place
We were a bit in the doldrums and looking for a quick “pick-me-up”. Number 4 was at camp, so we couldn’t go far. I was stumped – where could I take 4 adventurous boys for some fast fun that didn’t blow our budget for the week?
It took me a while, but I came up with an answer: Sonny’s Place in Somers, CT. It is only about 15-20 minutes from our house and has a variety for activities: mini-golf, batting cages, driving range, rock-climbing wall, bouncing on trampolines attached to bungee lines, go-carts and arcade.
Sonny’s Place has a convenient and budget-friendly system for paying for the activities. You can use a card to pay for everything – even the food at the convenient diner. You pre-load the card with money (if you put $100 on the card, they give you $120) and then just have the card swiped at each activity. I told the kids they could each pick 2 activities to do, spend some time in the arcade and buy lunch, but it all had to be paid for with the card and I was only putting money on the card once! (In all honesty, we ended up owing $10 at lunch time, but I confess to playing quite a few games of skeeball and some ball throwing game in the arcade.) Even after owing $10, it was probably the least amount of money we have ever spent for similar games and food.
And the kids had a great time.
