Friday Fun – Playtime!

Oct 11, 2013 | Parenting |
playtime

Maybe today we will recreate the ultimate leaf pile of 2012!

The first thought that popped into my head when I woke up this morning was – I get to play with the kids today!

This may seem like a strange thought given that I live with 5 children and playtime should be occurring all the time.  But the other day as I was shuttling kids between activities, the sad thought popped into my head that it had been a really long time since the kids and I had set out to play together.

August-October are tough months for family time.  We are at soccer 6-7 days a week (!) and kids are trying to settle into new school routines and learn how to switch from lazy summer days to frenetic school time.

Our typical day consists of the following:  get up, take care of animals, feed kids, send off to school, arrive home from school, have snack, take care of animals, go to after-school activities, eat dinner, do homework, practice instruments, take baths and showers (when time) and go to bed.  Repeat every week day.  On the weekends we bounce around from soccer game to soccer game, go to church and try to catch up on household chores, school projects, shopping for food and any supplies needed.

Today however is different!

The kids do not have school today; therefore after-school activities are canceled.  (actually a make-up soccer game was scheduled for today, but I told the coach we weren’t coming!).  I have to work from 9-2, but after that the kids and I are free!

The idea of having an afternoon free is luxurious.  I can’t wait to get out there.

I will tell you next week how it went!
