Friday Fun – Discussions with the Kids
Sometimes I have talks with my kids that make me wonder if they have any common sense at all.
Number 1 is
lazy lackadaisical about his homework. He almost always does it, except on those occasions when he “forgets” an assignment. What is really annoying is that he doesn’t always hand his homework in. Most often it is math homework because he gets the most assignments in math.
There must be a vortex outside our house that randomly sucks in homework assignments as kids walk by. It is the only explanation I can come up with for the abnormally large amount of homework he loses between our house and the school.
It is a source of frustration for me, because he is a smart kid and could be getting all A’s.
The other night his school had open house and we had the following conversation:
Number 1: If I go to all my classrooms tonight, then I get a homework pass.
Me: You mean, you don’t have to do your homework?
Number 1: No. I get a pass to use in the future in place of one homework assignment.
Me: That’s great. You could really use that when you “can’t find” your math homework. (I tried very hard to keep the sarcasm out of my voice).
Number 1: Well, I already have a homework pass.
Me: You do? How long have you had it for?
Number 1: Since December.
Me: Then why the heck didn’t you use it this semester? It could have really helped you in math class.
Number 1: I am saving it.
Huh? Anyone else see the problem here?
